1. Upload RisuAI Card
Accepts .charx, .zip, .json, or .png. CharX files are unpacked automatically.
How RisuAI → KoboldAI conversion works
1. Unpacking the CharX container
RisuAI exports characters as CharX (.charx) — a ZIP built on the V3 spec, with a risuai extensions block for emotions, scripts and lorebooks. The tool unpacks the ZIP and reads the underlying chara_card_v3 card; Risu-only extensions are set aside.
2. Mapping to the KoboldAI schema
KoboldCpp/Lite reads Tavern V2 cards, so the persona is written to the chara_card_v2 structure and embedded into a PNG. The converter normalizes RisuAI's field names onto a common persona model first, so the mapping is consistent regardless of how the source card was authored.
3. What transfers to KoboldAI
The core persona always carries across: name, description, personality, scenario, greeting (first_mes), and example dialogue are mapped directly onto the KoboldAI fields, along with tags and creator credit where supported. Because KoboldAI reads V2 PNG cards, the converted character is handed back as a downloadable image with the persona embedded in a tEXt metadata chunk — drag it straight into KoboldAI to import. V3-only extras such as extra bundled assets or group-only greetings are omitted when KoboldAI has no equivalent slot, but nothing in the core character is lost.
4. Private, client-side conversion
No servers, no accounts, no sign-up. The RisuAI archive is decompressed and read in your browser's memory using JavaScript, the persona is transformed locally, and the KoboldAI result is returned as a download. Because character cards often contain hours of personal writing, this zero-upload model keeps your work on your own device — you can confirm it in your browser's network tab.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert a RisuAI card to KoboldAI?
Upload your RisuAI .charx file above and click “Convert to KoboldAI”. The tool unpacks the archive, reads the card, maps it onto the KoboldAI schema, and gives you the converted card to download — all in your browser.
Is a RisuAI file the same as a .charx?
RisuAI exports characters as .charx (CharX) archives, which are ZIP files built on the V3 spec. This tool reads that archive directly.
Will the greeting and personality survive the conversion to KoboldAI?
Yes. The name, description, personality, scenario, greeting, and example dialogue are all preserved and written into the KoboldAI card. Only format-specific extras that KoboldAI cannot store are omitted.
Do I need to upload my card to a server?
No. The entire conversion runs client-side in your browser. Your RisuAI card is never transmitted anywhere, which is why it works even with the network disconnected after the page loads.
