1. Paste Voxta JSON

Format Translation: JSON to Plain Text

CharacterAI does not accept JSON uploads. It requires you to paste a "Definition" text block. Our tool automates the construction of this text:

1. Concatenating Fields

The name, description, personality, scenario, first message and example dialogue are mapped one-to-one from the Voxta data to CharacterAI. The converter maps fields only; apart from the small changes listed below, it does not edit, clean up or reformat the text inside them.

2. Formatting Dialogue Examples

Voxta stores example chats as an array of strings in mesExample. CharacterAI expects these in a specific {{char}}: "Hello" format.

3. Variables

Migration Steps

  1. Open File: Open your Voxta `character.json` in a text editor.
  2. Copy & Paste: Copy the entire content and paste it into the tool above.
  3. Convert: Generate the text block.
  4. Deploy: Go to CharacterAI "Create Character," paste the generated text into "Advanced Definition," and fill in the Name/Greeting manually from the output provided.

FAQ: Voxta to CAI

Q: Can I upload the JSON directly to CAI?

A: No. CharacterAI does not support file uploads for definitions. You must copy/paste the text generated by this tool.

Q: Why is the definition shorter?

A: CAI has a character limit (32,000 chars). Your character is converted in full rather than shortened; trim it by hand if CharacterAI has a size limit.
